My landlord refuses to get an association approval or renew lease and he has been in foreclosure for 2 years?

My children and I moved into a townhouse on February 1st, 2010, and paid a deposit of $1300 (equal to one month's rent). He never went through the association, which we were unaware of. We paid rent on time all year and began receiving notices of fines and potentital car towing because we dont have decals for our cars. In order to get a decal the landlord must get an association approval and request the decal (this is how we found out he did not follow procedures). By now it is January 2011 and approaching the end of the lease. Furthermore, we began receiving visits from the bank taking pictures and asking who lives at the home. Upon questioning the landlord he said "I am remodifying my loan, everything is fine." We finally received a letter from the banks attorney, notifying all parties including us tenants of an upcoming court date. The letter states that in July of 2009 his house had begun the foreclosure process and he had until July 2011 to remodify his loan or they will proceed. All the while the landlord is saying everything is fine. To make matters worse when we asked if we would be renewing a lease, he said to pay him month by month, and he refused to get an association approval, making us extremely uncomfortable. After paying him February - April he said in order to remodify he needs to put our electric bill in his name or we must move out immediately so he can do this. Of course, we declined because this is ridiculous at this point that he refuses to follow any procedures, and I feel my rights as a tenant are being jeapordized. Mind you; I have three small children and am a single mother. I began saving my money and the landlord said he will use my deposit for rent and will not give it back and that I need to leave asap; followed by several harrasing messages. Finally in July I moved without notice;completely fed up. He now is harrassing me saying that I did not clean the house and that I stole his boxing bag and workout equipment, which "he has a receipt for." He never left anything in the house other than appliances, lighting fixtures etc. which still remain. He says he is suing me for $500 and continues to harrass me about gym equipment which I know nothing about. It is bad enough that I had to come up with $4200 to move on such short notice and am barely paying all my bills. I don't have money for an attorney; what can I do to end the harrassment and not have to deal with a bs court suit that I don't even have time for? Please point me to Florida agency's I can contact or free local advice......HELP!!!|||I wouldn't worry about him as he sounds like a flake. If he files a suit in small claims you will not need an attorney just take all of your receipts and copies of any correspondence you received and then file a cross complaint for your $1300 deposit plus 1/2 of you moving cost because he forced you out before the lease ended. He probably will not follow through with the suit anyway and you have a better chance of winning than he does. Good Luck
