How can i leave my flat early because of mold?

Me and my boyfriend started renting our flat in may 2010 for 6 months, now that the 6months is almost up we received a letter stating we must renew our leese before the 22nd of november. We decided that we werent going renew our leese and move to a different city, and we found ourselfs a new property. But when we called up our landlords to notify them on the 10th of november we were told that our leese gets renewed automatically and that we must give them 2months notice!! Even though we were reminded to renew the leese ourselfs!! Since then we've been clearing out, and packing, gettin ready for our move in 2months time and we've came across mold. Mold under our bed, over our mattress, duvet covers, around the windows, over our coffee table, i also found in my cupboard two of my black jackets completley covered in mold. Its now travelling up our walls over our belongings and i spray mold and mildew over it everyday. My boyfriend has been having serious headaches for the past few months and now we've had enough, we're sick of the mold destroying our things and and the mold spray doesnt seem to help anymore, even though we agreed to wait another 2months, we would now like to leave as soon as possible. We dont mind if they kept our deposit to replace the extra 2months rent. But we want out of here before christmas, me and my partner are only young and im worried they wont take us seriously. Im also scared that if our landlords do listen to us, we wont have a leg to stand on, we'll be paying for a flat for the next two months that we wont be living in and is covered mold. Do we have a chance of leaving this property anytime soon?|||Sounds like you had a real bad mildew problem, and you ignored it. Spraying anything never removes mildew. Improving ventilation stops it, and cleaning simply wipes it away.

Move, but be ready for legal problems, Your choice|||Yes you have a very good chance first go up on your states renters rights web site that should tell you your complete rights concerning this matter.|||I don't know how the law works there but being that mold is a health hazard I would leave but take plenty of pics before you leave and just let the landlords know that you will see them in court if they decide to hold you to your lease. I have never heard of a self renewing lease. How are you ever supposed to move if it renews itself all the time.|||Hey Rayanne,

If you are happy yo forgo the security deposit, then just leave. Simple. Don't tell the landlord your forwarding address, sort out your mail forwarding at the post-office and move on with your lives.

This landlord is going to charge you for the mold-damage to any of his stuff (furniture? Walls, carpets?). You just know that don't you?

If it were me, I would have long gone. Life is just too short and also your health is even more important. Simple.

Best wishes, RR
