Short contract accommodation in the UK?

I'm originally from Ireland but living in Luton in the UK for University. The contract I have with my landlord is about to run out, and I don't want to renew it for the rest of term as my landlord is terrible.

I need to find somewhere to live for the next 3/4 months but I'm not sure if it's possible to get a contract for that length of time? Are there ways to get accommodation in England with a monthly contract? It seems everywhere wants me to sign for six months minimum and pay a huge deposit in advance.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

- Dean|||So long as your landlord is a private landlord (ie not the university) then you don't have to sign a new contract or leave at he end of your contract.

This link will give you more info - but essentially, the only way you can be made to leave the property involuntarily is by the landlord getting a court order. Depending on whether you have already been served with a s21 notice, this can take from 6 weeks to 4 months! And that is only if the LL can be bothered taking it to court. It will cost him between 拢150 and 拢1000 to do so, he might be happier just to wait for you to go voluntarily.

David Moorhouse: An AST can be any length, but the landlord can not gain possession via the s21 route before 6 months.|||by law all shorthold tenancies have to be a minimum of 6mts but if u look in ur local papers or shop windows there are still sum people that rent room on a 3mth rolling contract
